Minatamis na Saging Saba, or sweetened banana, is a delicious Filipino dessert that is very easy to make and the whole family love.

Philippines is one of the leading global exporters of bananas. Because of their widespread availability, Filipinos get to enjoy a variety of this fruit. Each one has its own unique characteristic, but only Saba or burro bananas are used to make sweetened bananas or Minatamis na Saging. The bananas should be ripe but still firm and not mushy.

This recipe uses simple ingredients that you might already have in your pantry so give this Minatamis na Saging recipe a try. Make it and share it with family and friends. This is also great with milk and shaved ice, or as an ingredient in another popular Filipino dessert: halo-halo.

    Minatamis na Saging Recipe:

1.Place the water in a medium size deep pan and bring into a boil.

    2. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve. Simmer for 2 minutes.

    3. Add the banana and simmer for about 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally until the sauce starts to thicken. Taste to see if more brown sugar is needed. Add accordingly.

    4. Add the vanilla extract and lemon peel. Stir gently and cook for another minute.

    5. Turn-off the heat and allow the bananas to cool. Transfer to a serving plate and enjoy!
