Ingredients

  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 100 g cream cheese at room temperature
  • 100 g smoked turkey thinly sliced (ham, bacon or prosciutto are great options as well)
  • 1 egg for brushing
  • sesame seeds for sprinkling
  • ketchup for serving
  • 15 wooden skewers

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F), top and bottom heat.
  • Place the first puff pastry sheet on your work surface and spread the cream cheese evenly over it.
  • Scatter the smoked turkey slices over the cream cheese, then place the second puff pastry sheet on top to cover it.
  • Cut the layered pastry into 15 vertical strips. Shape each strip into a small Christmas tree (twisting or folding upward) and insert a wooden skewer to help it hold its shape.
  • Transfer the trees onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Once baked, decorate with ketchup and serve warm.

Notes

Chef’s Tip: The savory Christmas trees can be assembled ahead of time. Keep them in the refrigerator and bake the next day.

Chef’s Notes

  • For extra flakiness, chill the shaped trees for 10–15 minutes before baking.
  • If the puff pastry is too soft, refrigerate it for 5 minutes before cutting.
  • You can assemble and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • The trees can be baked ahead and reheated in the oven for 5–7 minutes at 180°C / 350°F.
