It is finally warm, sunny, early summer—just the time for the coolest of lemonades flavored with this homemade ginger syrup. This ginger syrup is extremely easy to prepare and will always be in my pantry from now on!
Homemade Ginger Syrup
Ingredients
- 200 g ginger root
- 250 g granulated sugar
- 1 lime
- 1 l water
Instructions
- Wash the ginger root thoroughly under cold running water, then slice it thinly. For a more intense flavor and color do not peel it.
- Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over low to medium heat for an hour.
- Strain the syrup (about half a liter or about 2 cups) through gauze and store it in a tightly sealed bottle. It will keep in the fridge for up to two months.
- For flavoring classic lemonade, mix one spoonful of syrup for every 200 ml (~1 cup) of lemonade and add some fresh mint leaves. Ginger gives the lemonade a very special flavor!
