The Dutch love eating applesauce (or appelmoes as they call it) as a condiment with their main course. It’s very much part of the everyday family meal in Holland.

Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 kg apples around 8 apples
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 60 ml water
  • cinnamon stick

Instructions
 

  • Peel the apples and chop them into chunks. Sprinkle them with some lemon juice to prevent the browning and put them in big pot.
  • Add a few cups of water depending on your size pot. Basically, put the apples in a few centimeters of water.
  • Cover and simmer the apples until they become fully cooked, occasionally sprinkling sugar over them.
  • Leave it chunky or smash it slightly to create a finer texture. Taste and adjust the sweetness or the flavor of cinnamon as preferred.
