Kitchen of the Week: White, Minimalist Masterpiece at One Seventy Madison
” Welcome to The Mansion at One Seventy Madison,” reads the listing description for a spectacular penthouse in a new boutique condominium located in the heart of Manhattan.
The building, designed by Fisher + Makooi Architects, was a novelty at the time of its construction due to the location chosen by its developers. It is set near Murray Hill – now an area dubbed NOMA – an area ,known more as an office district than a residential neighborhood.
But times are changing and the new trend of live & work neighborhoods has blurred traditional lines between office and residential neighborhoods.
So let’s talk kitchens. The kitchen is a light, white minimalist masterpiece that feels very clean and crisp. The open design and light colors make this kitchen feel spacious and airy. The layout has comfortable access for getting in and out, which is extremely practical when preparing, cooking or bringing in groceries.
We love the choice of appliances, with the ‘working triangle’ making it easy to prepare your favorite meals.
The color scheme is predominately white, but has been embellished with seven black sleek pendants. These frame the kitchen and balance out the white, making great use of the design element of contrast.
With the seven pendants and the downlights, this kitchen is well lit, which is important as good lighting is a very important factor when cooking. The neutral black and white color scheme naturally opens up endless possibilities for styling, whether you tie it all together with some beautiful timber features or are bold and make it pop with feature colors.
It also opens up possibilities for the surrounding spaces, working more as a ‘backdrop’ than as a design that ‘steals the show’. The kitchen is situated directly next to the living room and dining table. This makes it a large entertaining space, perfect for having people over, and makes the already large space feel even more spacious
So what about the rest of the apartment and the building? The building features an indoor pool, a club room, a superb lounge and garden gym, and many more gorgeously designed unique features.
You can also enjoy a private outdoor pool, a very rare feature for a NYC apartment.
