Ingredients

  • 600 g starchy potatoes
  • 200 g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 60 g semolina
  • salt
  • 100 g poppy seeds
  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 250 g melted butter

Instructions

  • Boil the potatoes, peel them and grate them in a bowl on a grater. Grind the poppies using a poppy grinder, or utilize pre-ground poppy seeds Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Before preparing the dough, we also place a large pot with lightly salted water on the stove, which we bring to a boil. It is important that we have boiling water ready at the exact moment when the cones are finished, so that they do not stand unnecessarily.
  • Begin by peeling and washing the potatoes. Then boil the potatoes until softened and grate them into a bowl.
  • Grind the poppy seeds in a poppy grinder and transfer them into a separate bowl. Place a large pot of lightly salted water on the stove and bring to a boil to have it ready for when it's time to cook the potato cones.
  • Melt the butter in the pan and reserve for when it's time to serve the potato cones.
  • Add the flour, semolina and egg yolks to the grated potato and mix thoroughly until it forms a dough. Adjust with more or less flour as necessary to obtain a pliable dough, that's not too sticky.
  • Sprinkle a little flour on a clean work surface and divide the dough in half. Form two cylindrical rolls from each half and cut each roll into smaller pieces. Take the pieces and shape them into your hands to make small cones of 5 cm (2 inches) in length and about 1 cm (~1/3 of an inch) in diameter.
  • Place the cone sin boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes. Check the cones are firmed up and done before removing them from the water using a slotted spoon.
  • Place the škubánky on a plate, dust with poppy seeds, powdered sugar, and top with melted butter. Serve warm.

Enjoy!
