The Best 7 Websites to Find Donut Clipart on the Web
From the iconic Simpson’s pink sprinkled donut, to the takeover of Krispy Kreme cabinets in supermarkets across the globe, the humble donut has become somewhat of a staple in the modern world. Whether it’s a plain sugar-coated ring, a sprinkle covered icing creation or a filled doughy centre, donuts are almost certainly enough to make mouths water – and that’s just the description.
When it comes to seeking out the best images to use alongside your recipes, party plans or sweet-coated blogs, clipart and illustrations are no doubt the best option – far superior to a photo which can quickly look faded or a little over the top. With clipart, the boundaries are endless; you can create a towering stack of donuts or cover them with bright icing, and the result will still be enticing.
So, where’s the problem?
Well, have you ever tried to draw your own doughnut? Try as you might, if you don’t have the graphic designer talent, creating something enticing and eye-catching is a lot more difficult than it sounds – even if it is just a cake with a whole in the middle.
That’s where clipart comes in – particularly those sites which provide you with free images, completely without watermarking or copyright warnings, which you can download and stick on your piece of work.
Let’s take a look at some of the most popular free clipart sites, starting with our very favourite.
Pixabay
Why is this our favourite? Pixabay pools together a wide range of results, from clipart to high quality photos and illustrations, meaning that you’re likely to find what you need no matter what your chosen style is. When you use the search bar you can break your results down by image style if you want, although it’s quite nice to just view all the results and then decide which one works best with your piece of work.
Downloading images from Pixabay is super easy, and the pictures all come in a high enough resolution that you can rest assured they won’t be pixelated as soon as you choose to use them. The site also allows you to see exactly who designed the image, which is great if you like their style and want to use their work again in the future. You do have to sign up to start downloading, but this is easy and no payment is required.
CLKER
Another easy to use site which is completely free, one of the best things about CLKER is that you can choose to download your chosen image in a range of different sizes. This means that you can be sure the image will transfer well into your proposed project without pixelating as soon as you stretch it or make it smaller.
A streamlined search bar is present at the top of the homepage and when we search for ‘donuts’, we are presented with a good selection of everything from one-dimensional cartoon drawings right through to 3D realistic illustrations and animation style images. It is also nice to see black and white line drawings included in the results, meaning we can colour and style the donuts as we please.
WPClipart
WPClipart was designed for use in schools, immediately meaning that any search results are guaranteed as free of inappropriate images. This may sound strange, but search results can lead you down some strange avenues which are completely unrelated to the search – WPClipart however, does not allow artists to upload anything using fake tags. As well as this safety function, WPClipart boasts a great range of clipart images which can be downloaded for free, all on a super basic webpage which is literally made up of a search bar and results.
A search for ‘donuts’ found no results, but a quick edit to the singular ‘donut’ and we had loads – proof that it pays to try a few variations of your search term before settling on an image. The results we got provided a good selection of the basic cartoon drawings and some more realistic 3D images; all available to download as a basic jpeg image, as a transparent image and even as a PNG file ideal for graphic designers.
FreePik
Another good all-rounder, FreePik has a sophisticated search function which enables users to filter their searches out by the style of image, the publish date, and – of course – whether or not it is free to download. A quick search for ‘donut’ brought up over 4000 free images, with just under half of them saved as vector clipart images. The great thing about this site is that for those images which are free, downloading them is remarkably easy, with an added function which tells you the type of file the image will save as, and how to change it.
In terms of the results themselves, we had a selection of cartoon-y pictures and illustrations, which included some highly detailed and intricately drawn examples. Attribution is often required to note the artist whose work you are using, but for such high quality free images this isn’t really a problem!
Vecteezy
Vecteezy offers users two different types of membership – free image download requires attribution to the site for every image, while a paid Pro Licence membership provides free images, unlimited downloads, and no attribution required. When we search for ‘donut’, an impressive 7,000 results are shown with a good selection of illustrations, cartoons, realistic and novelty images.
On Vecteezy you can also control the orientation of images, filtering your search results by those which are square shaped, horizontal or vertical – depending on your individual needs.
Vecteezy as a site is really easy to use with vibrant colours and well laid out search tools to create a very user-friendly experience.
Clip Art Panda
With a focus on cartoon style images, Clip Art Panda is a basic site that is very easy to use – and equally easy to download images from. 47 search results appear with our basic search for ‘donuts’, with a combination of single donut images and piles up stacks. One or two of the results are watermarked by the artist, but on the whole download is easy and completely free; providing useful information such as the original image size and the file type.
An easy site for both image-hunters and artists to use, Cliparts Pub provides a simple homepage on which you can search for any kind of image. Interestingly, in the search bar we did have to insert the term ‘donuts clipart’ in order for it to bring up the results, so it is worth noting you may need to try your search term in a number of different ways before finding what you’re looking for.
Once the results did appear, we had 10 different ‘donut’ images to choose from – a narrow selection but still a good range of the very static cartoon round doughnuts and the slightly more realistic 3D illustrated donut stacks. Downloading the images can then be done from the search page itself, simply right-clicking and saving the image onto your device. The other option readily offered by the site is to Pin the image, showing a preference for Pinterest users.
Clipart Look
The site itself calls our search results “interesting and top high quality Clipart” – and we cannot really argue! A search for ‘donuts’ provides 51 different results and though not all of them are entirely free of watermarking, there is certainly a good selection of free images to download which cover all the bases we could possible want – from an iced cartoon that resembles Homer Simpson’s pink donut ring, to a far more appetising plate of normal coloured donuts.
The site not only allows you to download the images but also to edit them with a free clipart editing tool – whereby you can resize, recolour and add shapes or text to the images. This unique offering makes Clipart Look a real winner; aided by its unlimited downloads and lack of registration requirement. A great Clipart tool!
To finish this post, we can’t resist a slight step away from clipart. After all, we couldn’t write a post about donut images and not mention at least one or two free sites with mouth-watering photos of donuts, could we?!
Pexels is a really simple site dedicated to free stock photos, including 99 photos under a quick search for ‘donuts’. From simple screen-filling donuts to staged café scenes and stacks of iced rings, Pexels boasts an extravagant selection of images which are all neatly laid out and enable the user to quickly identify the photographer, any sharing regulations, and click a quick ‘Free Download’ button to save the photo.
Unsplash is another very similar site which offers exceptionally high quality photos for free download; drawing on the simplistic fun of donuts – particularly those covered in sprinkles and brightly coloured icing, in a way that embraces the vibrant colour while still appearing deliciously enticing.
