250 g anchovy fillets marinated
2 large onions
300-400 ml Cream
3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
Butter

Jansson’s temptation is a traditional Swedish casserole made with potatoes, onions, pickled sprats, bread crumbs, and cream.

How to Make Janssons Frestelse:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut into strips.
  2. Cut the onions into thin strips.
  3. Spread the butter on a baking dish.
  4. Layer the potatoes, onions, and anchovies, and then potatoes again, etc.
  5. Finish with a layer of potatoes.
  6. Press the upper layer flat.
  7. Pour the cream over it.
  8. If you like, pour some of the anchovy marinade from the tin over it.
  9. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top.
  10. Season with alt and pepper.
  11. Spread some butter over it.
  12. Then pop in the oven for one hour, at 230° C.
