Ingredients

1/2 kg beef brisket cut into chunks
2 medium potatoes cubed
2 medium carrots sliced
3 tbsp tomato paste
3 tbsp liver spread
2 cloves garlic minced
1 small onion chopped
500 ml or more Water
3 pcs Bay Leaves
1 Chili pepper or 1/8 teaspoon chili flakes
150 gr green/red bell pepper cut into squares
150 gr Green peas
15 gr Grated cheese
2 tbsp Oil
Salt and pepper to taste

Beef kaldereta is a good option if you are looking for a delicious main course for a special occasion. It’s a popular beef recipe that every Filipino loves. The combination of all the ingredients makes beef kaldereta delicious and irresistible.

How to Make Beef Kaldereta:

  1. Heat the oil over a medium heat in a pot or deep pan, add the potatoes and carrots and cook until the edges are slightly browned.
  2. Remove the potatoes and carrots from the oil and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté the garlic and onion until limp.
  4. Add the beef chunks and cook for 5 minutes or until slightly browned.
  5. Add the water and bay leaves and bring to a boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to low and cover with a lid.
  6. Let it cook for 50 to 60 minutes or until the meat is tender, stirring occasionally and adding more water as needed.
  7. Once the meat is tender and the water is reduced to half, add the tomato paste, chili and liver spread and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Put the cooked potatoes and carrots back with the rest of vegetables and cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Lastly, add the grated cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  10. Serve hot with steamed rice. Enjoy!
