Best 10 Rotisserie Ovens (With Photos!)
No matter whether you’re in the mood for chicken fried rice, tacos, chicken quesadillas, or just some plain rotisserie chicken and vegetable skillet, there’s a lot you can make with rotisserie chicken.
And there’s a lot to say about that crispy skin and rich flavor, which are hard for any roasted chicken recipe to match. Even though a roasted chicken or turkey always turns out juicier and somehow enriched by cooking together with vegetables, rotisserie chicken will always have its certain appeal.
And, although many stores sell it, when making your own rotisserie chicken, you will always be fully aware of all the ingredients you have used.
There are countless rotisserie ovens to choose from. So, what should you look for when you’re buying such an appliance?
As you’re buying a pretty bulky piece of equipment, always make sure you have enough counter space to accommodate it. Keep in mind that you will want your rotisserie oven to be big enough to fit an entire chicken or a medium-sized turkey.
If you don’t have lots of counter space, you can opt for a vertical rotisserie oven, which usually takes up less horizontal space. However, keep in mind that, with this oven, the juices from the meat drip into the tray, so the resulting meat will be drier than that cooked in a horizontal rotisserie oven or a toaster oven.
Top Features for Rotisserie Ovens
Many rotisserie ovens have lots of features, but only a handful are really important. Be sure to pick a product that has the features that you need, so you aren’t paying extra money for some things you will never use.
A non-stick surface is always an important feature to look for, as it makes cleaning the oven much easier. Be sure to choose an appliance that uses healthy materials for the coating, as there are some that give off toxic fumes when heating.
The possibility of temperature adjustment is also an important feature, as it gives you control over your cooking. Usually, the temperature adjustment feature can be found in high-end oven models.
The toaster oven function can bring many benefits, too, as the oven will be more versatile. Also, look for models that have display windows, to help you see what’s going on with your food, interior light, and several other accessories, such as baking pans and shelves, tongs, and meat shredders.
Of course, we all look for appliances that are long-lasting and easy to use. Before deciding on a rotisserie oven, think about how much you are going to use it for chicken and roasts. If you plan on using it a lot, invest in a durable model made of stainless steel, with well-built rotisserie spits and tongs that can support the weight of the meat and are made from durable materials.
Depending on how often you plan on using your oven, you can opt for toaster ovens with rotisserie functions, which are cheaper but not built for frequent usage. If you are planning to use the oven a lot, opt for a commercial-grade rotisserie oven, which can hold more than one chicken and is much more durable, but also pricier.

Recipes for Rotisserie Ovens
To cook a chicken in a rotisserie oven and get the texture and flavor of store-bought rotisserie meat, there are several things you can do. First, remove the giblets. Then, truss and skewer the chicken and coat it generously with a dry rub made with 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, salt, freshly ground black pepper, and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Then, insert the rotisserie skewers into the rotisserie, and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once the chicken is cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes before carving and using it for other recipes.
Using 1 rotisserie chicken, Chef Bao developed two recipes that can be cooked simultaneously: a rotisserie chicken and vegetable casserole, and a rotisserie chicken salad.
To make the recipes, first, cut the chicken into pieces, debone it, and put the meat from the thighs and the breast in a separate container. The bones, the wings, and the back are the basis for the broth, alongside an onion, celery, carrots, peppercorns, and water. Let the broth simmer for two hours, then put it through a sieve. Separately, dice an onion and 2 garlic cloves, and cut some potatoes and some hot dogs into pieces. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan, then add the onion and garlic, 2 tablespoons of white rice, and pour in the broth. Add the potatoes and some dried oregano, a pack of frozen vegetables, the cut-up hot dogs, and the chicken meat from the thighs.
Let the casserole simmer for 15 minutes. For the salad, tear up a lettuce and cut up some cherry tomatoes and a cucumber. Mix the vegetables with the chicken breast and some walnuts. For the dressing, mix mayo, dried dill, dried parsley, mustard, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and a couple of tablespoons water. Pour the dressing over the salad.
Then, prepare the salsa by sautéing 1 large Jalapeno and 1 cup diced onion in olive oil for several minutes. Add 1 tablespoon minced garlic, then 1 can diced tomato, 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, 1/2 cup ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander, and 1/2 teaspoon chili powder. Simmer the salsa for 5-10 minutes. In the meantime, heat 1 can of refried beans and shred the chicken. Add the beans to the tortilla chips, layer the salsa over the beans, and the chicken over the salsa. Top it with 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar and 2 cups shredded pepper jack and bake in the preheated oven (at 450F) until the cheese is melted. Sprinkle with cilantro and red onion before serving.
